11 new Covid-19 clusters, 5 involving the community

The health ministry has detected 11 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said there were five community clusters, four clusters involving the education sector and two workplace clusters.

Four clusters were detected in Sarawak, three in Kedah and two in Selangor. One cluster each was detected in Melaka and Johor.

Clusters that recorded the most cases today were Saujana (153), Sungai Duan (102) and Sungai Ranan (33).

Sarawak

  • Sungai Tengah – a community cluster involving Bau and Kuching. The index case tested positive on April 25 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. This cluster is linked to a social function held in Kampung Sagah. 175 were screened, 23 tested positive.

  • Sungai Sebemban – a community cluster in Bintulu. The index case tested positive on April 26 after a pre-treatment screening. 59 were screened, 21 tested positive.

  • Sebujok – a community cluster involving Sri Aman and Betong. The index case tested positive on April 20 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 163 were screened, 15 tested positive.

  • Sains Bakam – an educational institution cluster in Miri. The index case tested positive on April 20 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. This cluster involves students and staff of a school in Jalan Bakam. 464 were screened, 19 tested positive.

Kedah

  • Jalan Junjong – an education cluster in Kulim. The index case tested positive on May 1 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. This cluster involves staff of an education centre. 72 were screened, 16 tested positive.

  • Limau Karangan – an education cluster in Kulim. The index case tested positive on April 29 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. This cluster involves students and personnel of an education centre in Padang Limau. 14 were screened, seven tested positive.

  • Kiara Jaya – an educational institution involving Kuala Muda, Kedah and Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur. The index case tested positive on April 26 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. This cluster involves staff of a school in Sungai Petani. 67 were screened, 24 tested positive.

Selangor

  • Kasawari Sembilan – a workplace cluster in Kuala Langat. The first few cases tested positive on May 1 after a targeted screening of factory workers in Batu 9, off Jalan Kampung Kebun. 232 were screened, 37 tested positive.

  • Persiaran Raja – a workplace cluster in Klang. The first few cases tested positive on April 29 after a targeted screening of employees of a services centre at Port Klang. 27 were screened, 13 tested positive.

Melaka

  • Jalan Emas – a community cluster in Melaka Tengah. The index case tested positive on April 10 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 115 were screened, 10 tested positive.

Johor

  • Jalan Sri Putri 12 – a community cluster in Kulai. The index case tested positive on April 29 after a screening of symptomatic individuals. 27 were screened, 13 tested positive.

Noor Hisham said 10 clusters officially ended today. They are the Lorong Mulia, Jalan Alamanda, Jalan Padang, Taman Brick, Jalan Kemajuan, Jalan Suasana, Wakaf Chagak, Jalan Teluk Kumbar, Kampung Batu Lapan Lekir and Sungai Mupong clusters.
