Community clinics to be upgraded under 10MP – Liow

HULU SELANGOR – The government will upgrade the services provided at community clinics nationwide under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Liow said under the 10MP which will be carried out in stages, a medical attendant or medical officer would be placed at every community clinic.

He said currently community clinics were only manned by two community nurses and the services were limited to ante-natal and post-natal care for mothers and babies, check-ups and vaccination for minor healthcare.

“We hope that with the presence of a medical attendant at these clinics, we will be able to provide better services which include prescribing medicine for minor ailments,” he told reporters after visiting the Community Clinic at Kampung Pasir, Kerling near here, Friday.

Currently there are more than 2000 community clinics nationwide.

Meanwhile, he said there were also plans to upgrade the status of 1Malaysia clinics to normal clinics, by placing a doctor at every clinic because such clinics are currently attended by a medical attendant.

“Eventually that will be our aim, to upgrade and provide better services, to the people,” he added.
