Perak sees an almost 50% increase in dengue cases


A total of 5,265 cases of dengue fever were recorded in Perak from January to Dec 9, this year compared to 3,549 cases in the same period last year, an increase of 48.4 %.

State Health, Public Transport, Non-Islamic Affairs, National Integration and New Villages Committee chairman, Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the Kinta district recorded the highest number of dengue cases at 3,059 compared to 1,901 cases last year.

"Other districts recording an increase were Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) with 334 cases, Kuala Kangsar (151), Kampar (109), Mualim (85), Perak Tengah (32) and Hilir Perak (11).

"However, there were declines recorded in a few districts, such as Manjung with 127 cases, Kerian (37) and Batang Padang (29)," he said at a media conference on the status of dengue cases in Perak, here, today.

Dr Mah said 12 deaths from dengue fever were also recorded compared to 10 cases in the same period last year, with six deaths in the Kinta district, two each in Kuala Kangsar and LMS, and one death each recorded in Kampar and Kerian.
