Domestic Trade Ministry can confiscate fake milk, Dr Subra warns

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said today the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has the right to go ahead and confiscate baby formula milk suspected to be counterfeit milk off the shelves of shops and supermarkets.

He said the domestic trade ministry could remove the formula milk because it could be potentially harmful to the consumer.

"The Health Ministry is conducting a lab research to determine the actual content of the milk powder," he told a press conference after officiating the International Medical University (IMU) ground breaking ceremony of its first hospital, here today.

"The lab results will take two weeks to be completed and after that we will prepare a full detailed report on the content of the milk to show how it has been contaminated and proven to be fake," he added.

Last Thursday, some 210 baby milk formula worth RM42,000 was confiscated in five raids across Johor.
