PETALING JAYA: Do not drink from a recycled tin can, the Health Ministry Facebook page advised consumers after photos of a Penang restaurant using recycled milk tin cans as drink containers went viral.
The Facebook admin for the page posted comments from health professionals giving their views that it is not safe to eat or drink from recycled tin cans.
It said the risks includes diabetes, the sharp metal edges cutting the face, and added that the tin can could cause food poisoning if it is dirty or rusty.
"A few incidents could happen such as leptospirosis, diabetes mellitus or tetanus infection and wound trauma from the sharp metal," it said.
Eateries should practice restraint in introducing a "hipster" gimmick to attract attention, it added.
"Be a responsible capitalist," it said.
