Stern action including a fine of up to RM10,000 awaits those found guilty of smoking in prohibited areas as gazetted in Inisiatif Kelantan Bebas Asap Rokok'(IKBAR), said Kelantan Health Department director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir.
He said effective Jan 1 this year, smokers found guilty of committing the offence were faced with a RM250 compound.
"We have designated 15 non-smoking areas which are divided into three zones, namely IKBAR Exclusive Zone, IKBAR Initiative Zone and IKBAR Zone which involve public parks or state parks," he told reporters after an inspection around Siti Khadijah Market here today.
He said under the Exclusive Zone the three areas were the Tanah Merah Market in Tanah Merah District, Dataran Air Muleh in Pasir Mas District and Visitors Area at TasikKrai Park in Kuala Krai District.
"Anyone caught smoking in the open and indoor areas under IKBAR Exclusive Zone will be compounde%" he said.
