Tourist from Wuhan is 19th Covid-19 case in Malaysia

A 39-year-old tourist from Wuhan, China, is the 19th confirmed case of Covid-19 in Malaysia.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said the woman is a friend to and the daughter of two other China nationals, who were 14th and 16th Covid-19 cases identified in Malaysia.

"The woman arrived in Malaysia from China on Jan 25 with four other women" he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said as soon the two others – her friend and her mother – tested positive for the coronavirus on Feb 5 and Feb 7, she was put under home surveillance and monitoring.

"While under surveillance, she began developing symptoms such as cough and fever on Feb 12.

"She was then admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Tests conducted on the same day found her positive for Covid-19," said Dr Noor Hisham.

Dr Noor Hisham said the woman has been put in an isolation ward and is currently in stable condition.

The other two women, aged 37 and 67, are also under isolation at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Out of the 19 confirmed cases in Malaysia, 13 are China nationals while six are Malaysians.

Three patients, all from China, have recovered from the coronavirus and have been discharged. - The Star Online
