Hospital needs more donors to replenish stock during holy month
IPOH – The Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun blood bank here has appealed to the public to donate blood during the fasting month to replenish its stock.
Blood bank liaison officer Khairul Anuar Mohd Nor said that since the start of Ramadan on Wednesday, the hospital only had five donors.
He said organisations were also slowing down blood donation drives during the holy month.
To increase supply during this period, Khairul Anuar said the blood bank would be opened even during the night from Aug 17.
“The hospital usually gets between 20 and 25 pints of blood daily,” he said here yesterday.
He added that while churches and schools were helping by conducting blood donation campaigns, the hospital wanted more walk-in donors.
“This is because the hospital needs between 70 and 100 pints of blood daily,” he said, adding that the need would increase if there was a dengue outbreak.
The normal working hours of the blood bank is 8am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, with an hour’s break at 1pm.
From Aug 17, there would be an additional session from 8pm to 10.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
