10,710 Covid-19 cases, with record high 153 deaths

The health ministry has reported 10,710 Covid-19 cases and a record high 153 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The previous record was 138 fatalities yesterday. The 153 deaths take the number of fatalities to 7,019.

In a tweet, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 5,778 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 784,949.

Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 916,561.

There are 124,593 active cases, with 909 patients being treated in intensive care and 445 requiring respiratory assistance.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 4,828.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (945), Johor (808), Negeri Sembilan (771), Kedah (696), Sabah (666), Perak (407), Pahang (369), Penang (295), Melaka (289), Sarawak (261), Kelantan (146), Terengganu (123), Putrajaya (51), Labuan (50) and Perlis (five).

There were 10,710 local infections today and 12 imported cases.

The 153 who died comprised 125 Malaysians and 28 foreigners. A total of 117 had existing medical conditions.

Selangor recorded the highest number of deaths (82), followed by Kuala Lumpur (17), Negeri Sembilan (14), Johor (10), Kedah (8), Pahang (6), Melaka (5), Sabah, Penang and Putrajaya (2 each) and Sarawak, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Labuan (1 each).

Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 1.18. Terengganu recorded the highest R-nought level at 1.31, followed by Putrajaya (1.26), Kedah (1.25), Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan (1.19), Penang (1.18), Selangor, Melaka and Perak (1.17), Sabah (1.15), Kelantan (1.13), Pahang (1.11) and Johor (1.10). - FMT
