Kuala Terengganu’s State Health director Dr Mohammad Omar urges the public to donate blood to ensure sufficient blood supply at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) Blood Bank Unit throughout Hari Raya Aidilfitri. He said the hospital’s daily requirement was between 40 and 45 pints of blood but this amount would increase to 50 to 60 pints during the festive season.
Currently, blood supply is still sufficient, however, preparations must be made in order to stock the blood supply to the optimum level as HSNZ is the main hospital in Terengganu, which often receives referral and emergency cases from other hospitals, he said.
“Normally, this amount can be accommodated from regular do¬¬nors, but during Ramadan most of these regular donors are absent.
Donors may donate blood at the nearly 30 mosques across the country after Terawih prayers, he said. Meanwhile, blood donation drives are also being held at various public locations such as in shopping malls, as well as public and private universities.
