Biib+app and the Rotary Club of Ampang raising funds to provide clean water for Myanmar village

Local running motivator mobile application, BiiB is teaming up with the Rotary Club of Ampang to raise funds to provide clean water to the Kamahor Refugee Resettlement Village in Myanmar.

BiiB in a statement said the funds would be used to construct a solar-powered water pump system, which would provide clean drinking water to more than 200 villagers with other villages in the vicinity benefiting from it as well.

"Instead of the conventional donor to beneficiary transfer, a fun and innovative charity event has been created for this cause. Known as 'Distance for a Cause', users of the BiiB+ app automatically contribute RM 0.30 for every kilometre they run or walk," it said.

The charity event aims to achieve a targeted collection of US$9,000 (about RM36,000).

Rotary Club of Ampang president, Ooi Bee Ngoh said the first pool of pledged funding was sponsored by Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Residential College, University of Malaya.

"The Rotary Club of Ampang is delighted to have KolejKediaman Raja Dr Nazrin Shah supporting our humanitarian objectives. We are proud to be part of this programme where it serves two causes - promoting the health of the participants and positively impacting the Karen indigenous people of Myanmar by providing clean water to their isolated village." she said.
