The Health Ministry has assured Malaysians that the Seretide Accuhaler in Malaysiaused to treat asthma are safe for use.
The announcement came after reports of the medication being unsafe to use surfaced in the United Kingdom, where it was also recalled.
Health director Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the recall only affects a certain quantity in the UK market.
Checks, he said, showed that for now, only the Seretide Accuhaler is registered with the Drug Control Authority with the registration number MAL20001532ARZ while the Ventolin Accuhaler is not registered with the authority.
“The Seretide Accuhaler sold in Malaysia are manufactured in the United States while those involved in the recall in the UK market are manufactured in the UK itself.
“In this matter, the Health Ministry once again stresses that the Seretide Accuhaler in the Malaysian market is safe, of quality and effective,” he said.
He was commenting on a report by an online portal on Feb 23 regarding the recall affecting the two products in the UK.
