Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad said that the government is always striving to ensure that the quality of healthcare is constantly improving, including in the treatment of cancer which has become much more efficient these days.
"According to doctors´ feedback, the current cancer treatment is more inclined to 'micro targeting' and the cells are not completely destroyed. The patients also said that the latest treatment was now more comfortable.
"This shows that Malaysia has been using state-of-the-art technology for patients to receive the best treatment" she said at the Ziarah KasehPersatuan Orang Kota Bharu´s (POKB) programme for cancer patients at the Raja Perempuan Zainab Hospital II in Kelantan recently.
Also present were POKB council member Prof Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Latiff and POKB's Yayasan Kaseh Kanserdan Kronik chief executive officer Mohamed Afandi Hassan.
During the visit, Sharifah Zarah, who is also a POKB Lifetime Honorary Member, presented assistance to 37 cancer patients at the hospital and spent time with them.
She said the government had spent billions of ringgit to ensure that the medical technology in the country were being utilised at optimum level so that the people would get the best treatment.
In the meantime, Sharifah Zarah said all agencies under the ministry had always played their roles in disseminating information through various healthcare programmes for the people.
