The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) announced that it will establish its volunteer corps.
The volunteer corps will comprise of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), especially those with expertise in emergency response.
Nadma director-general Datuk Abd Rashid Harun said the establishment of the team would further strengthen the existing collaboration between the agency and NGOs.
"We are aware that these NGOs are community representatives and some of them have expertise in communications, motoring and medicine, which are fundamental in providing early response in the event of disaster.
"The Cabinet meeting under the Prime Minister's Department last week had also approved the establishment of Nadma Volunteer (Corps). We are confident that the management of disaster relief agencies will be much easier to handle with the collaboration," he said.
