The government will further broaden the B40 healthcare coverage under the national health protection to cover 36 major critical illnesses. Budget 2019 had previously only overseen coverage for four critical illness.
Finance minister, Lim Guan Eng, said the scheme will be implemented at the start of 2019, and is designed to provide protection for the B40 group should they need to seek treatment from a government hospital.
“If they (B40) get admitted into a government hospital ward but cannot afford to pay, they may submit an application to cover payment for a maximum of 14 days at RM50 per day or RM700 a year,” he stated.
The scheme will be managed by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and applications can be made online, on the website that is currently being set up.
