Covid-19: Malaysian Medical Association calls for coordinated effort

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) today called on each state to take ownership of the exploding COVID-19 pandemic and act independently with speed in their own jurisdiction.

MMA president, Prof Datuk Dr Subramaniam Muniandy said in a statement that now is the time for states to decentralise the communication channel.

“MMA suggests for the State Crisis Command Centre to coordinate all activities and ensure the needs of the state are met on all fronts while non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the public coordinate to assist the state’s efforts,” he said.

Dr Subramaniam said while cases in the country have been increasing, all relevant data including equipment, manpower, bed strength, testing capacity and others should be displayed on the State Crisis Command Centre dashboard for the stakeholders to coordinate, in particular data on shortages and needs.

He also suggested that private hospitals, clinics and doctors join in the fight against the pandemic and for the federal government to channel all support urgently including funds, resources and manpower. - Bernama
