5,516 Covid-19 cases reported

The health ministry has reported 5,516 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 9,401 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 2,297,289.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 2,407,382.

There were 669 patients in intensive care, 572 of whom were confirmed Covid-19 positive and 97 suspected of being infected.

Meanwhile, 333 patients required respiratory assistance, with 241 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 92 suspected of being positive.

There were 5,502 local infections today, involving 5,267 Malaysians and 235 foreigners, and 14 imported cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 1.8% of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate remained at 0.88, with Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur having the highest R-nought level of 1.03, 1.03 and 1.01 respectively.

All other states recorded R-noughts of less than 1.0, while Labuan had an R-nought of zero.- FMT
