The Tanjung Lobang Mother and Child Clinic has received a portable ultrasound machine, while the Tudan Polyclinic has received six sphygmomanometers (blood pressure meters).
The machines were personally donated by Miri member of parliament Dr Michael Teo.
“I noticed a lot of equipment was not available and I will try to improve this clinic with some upgrading for the comfort of the patients with some new chairs and fans, and I am donating the blood pressure meters for the Tudan Polyclinic as well.
“I have also invited the Minister of Health (Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad) to come to Miri and see our overcrowded polyclinics for himself as Miri Polyclinic is very famous in Malaysia, where patients have to line up as early as 4am to get their numbers. I took a photo and have shown him the situation. He was very surprised and he wants to visit,” Dr Teo told reporters after handing over the items at the Mother and Child Clinic yesterday.
He said the clinic has an average of 200 to 300 patients daily, including some 50 pregnant mothers. Dr Teo said he hopes his donation of the portable black and white ultrasound machine, costing about RM16,000, would help with the clinic’s operations.
