The number of new Covid-19 cases last week dropped by 14.5% to 22,822 from 26,678 the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In his update for the week ending Aug 20, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 decreased by 5% per 100,000 from the preceding week, while Category 3, 4 and 5 patients dropped by 15.4%.
Admissions in quarantine centres were down by 5.4%.
Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases decreased by 1% while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds rose by 5%.
Active cases decreased during the week by 6% to 42,010.
“Recoveries dropped by 8.5% from 28,905 to 26,458,” Noor Hisham said.
“The number of deaths stood at 55, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,136.”
He said 4,755,288 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020. – FMT
