Health ministry bans sale of two beauty products

Two cosmetic products, Airee Beautycare night cream and BL Ledehh day cream 1, are no longer allowed to be sold in Malaysia, the health ministry said today.

Health director-general Dr Radzi Abu Hassan said the Airee cream was found to contain mercury, while the BL Ledehh cream contained hydroquinone and tretinoin, Bernama reported.

He said mercury is prohibited in cosmetic products, while products containing hydroquinone and tretinoin must be registered with the Drug Control Authority and can only be used with the advice of health professionals.

Dr Radzi said sellers and distributors of the products should stop selling and distributing them immediately. Members of the public are also advised to immediately stop using them and seek medical advice if they experience any discomfort or adverse effects.

Checks at online markets showed that the Airee cream retails for about RM45 a bottle, and the BL cream for about RM35 for a 5gm tin.
