The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped by 17.2% last week to 19,083 from 23,045 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In his update for the week ending Nov 19, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 was up by 11.3% per 100,000 cases from the preceding week, while Category 3, 4 and 5 patients rose by 13.9%.
The number of hospital admissions increased by 8.7% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.
Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases rose by 2%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds increased by 3%.
Noor Hisham said there were 27,806 active cases as of last week.
“Recoveries decreased by 19.6% from 28,704 to 23,089.
“The number of deaths decreased by 11.3% from 53 to 47, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,593,” he said in a statement.
He also said 4,965,666 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
